Bersara di STTJ pada 2015.
Pn Hjh Norhayati bt Abdul Ghani
Nobody in his or her right mind would want to read anything about an ordinary “ancient” lady like me. But since the assignment to “write something about yourself” was given to me by ‘my younger sister’ (Normali Bt Abdul Ghani), I just don’t have the heart to say ‘no’. Hopefully this article about myself will not bore you to death!
Born on January 8 in Kuala Lumpur fifty-seven years ago, I am the fourth in a family of ten. I have two elder sisters, one elder brother, three younger sisters and three younger brothers (one passed away in 2001). Being among the elders in a big family had taught me to be responsible to the younger ones, and I also consider myself an independent person as we were given equal attention and treatment by our mother and father (they passed away in year 2000 and 2008 respectively…may Allah bless them).
I have a passion for teaching since I started schooling. When I was in primary school, teachers asked what’s my ambition, my answer was “to become a teacher”. In secondary school, I upgraded my ambition – “to become a teacher with a degree”. I achieved my upgraded ambition very much later…at the age of forty-four, after teaching for twenty-one years (thanks to my husband’s support and encouragement!)
I started my teachers’ training in a new teachers’ training college at that time, Maktab Perguruan Kuantan in 1976 at the age of twenty-one. Alhamdulillah, after two years of training, I came out as the Best Trainee in 1977. The first school I was assigned to in 1978 was SRK Jalan Temerloh, Kuala Lumpur. Later, I transferred to five other schools and STTJ is my seventh school. I started teaching here in 2004 when my husband was offered a post in Kolej MARA Seremban. I think I will end my teaching career here in STTJ, in 2013 or 2015 which I am still considering.
Sports has been my first hobby ever since I was small. I was involved in netball, hockey, badminton and athletics since I was in primary school. I was introduced to netball when I was in standard five (and fell in love with that game instantly!) and had represented my schools and districts during my school years (I couldn’t go further because of my height…what a pity!) I also represented my teachers’ training college for the game and later on represented Kuantan and Muar in the teachers’ meet for a few years. Besides sports, I also love to go to places. If possible, I want to see the whole world!
I married my husband, Azmi Bin Mohamad, in 1982. We are blessed with five children – two girls (the eldest and the youngest) and three boys. My eldest is now married and the latest addition to the family is a grand-daughter.
Well, I think I have said enough about myself. You are still alive, if you have read up to here…To all STTJians I’d like to say I’m glad to be here! To students of STTJ, be thankful that you’re here among the selected ones. Be thankful that you have the best teachers to guide you. Just fulfil your duty: Study hard, aim high…BE THE BEST, BEAT THE REST!
