Cik Yeo Kim Yen
Born - 20 Ogos, 1954
Family background - My father was born in China. He came to Malaya when he was a teenager. In the beginning, he was employed as a worker and he became a successful businessman through hard work. My mother was born in Malacca. She helped my father to manage his business. I have four brothers and one sister. I am the second child in my family.
Education background -
Primary education : Yok Bin Primary School
Secondary education : Malacca Girls’ High School (Form1 to Form 5)
Malacca High School (Form Six)
Higher education : Universiti Malaya [Bachelor of Arts (Honours)]
Universiti Malaya (Diploma in Education)
My school days—I was a very hard working student. I usually studied after I came back from school. I would continue until midnight. I also had to help my parents to look after the shop after school. I would revise subject by subject. After I had completed revising all the subjects, I would repeat my revision for another round. This was the technique I used to remember facts. Since I came from a Chinese school , I was weak in English and Malay languages. In order to improve my vocabulary, I studied and made notes from dictionaries. This was how I became proficient in both languages. I sincerely hope that my students will gain from my experience.
Teaching experience—After graduation, I lectured in TAR College. After completing my Diploma in Education, I started teaching in STTJ on 20 January, 1981. Hopefully I shall retire from teaching in STTJ. It means that STTJ is the one and only school I have worked in throughout my teaching career. I have taught in STTJ for 30 years.
Subjects taught in STTJ—Matematik Tambahan, Ekonomi (Tingkatan Enam), Perdagangan, Ekonomi Asas, Prinsip Akaun, English Language, Teaching of English for Science and Technology, Pengajian Keusahawanan, Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan
Values in life - Commitment, conscience, dedication, responsibility and diligence.
Motto—Be prepared.
Achievement—I feel happy and satisfied when my students obtain good results in examinations. I am very proud of my students who have become very successful in their career. Many of my students have come back to school to thank me. They also told me that they appreciated the ways I had taught them after they had left school
Advice to my students--There is no free lunch in this world. If you want to be successful in your life, you have to work for it.
